I want to go on birth control, but I've heard first hand horror stories about mood swings, low sex drive...?

and weight gain. Yes, I know everyone reacts differently, but there has to be a pill that kind of overpowers all of the others in the excellence department (Like, I know that a lot of my friends have been on Yaz and said that it made them a super-*****). Obviously I don't want to gain weight, but I definitely don't want to lose my sex drive because that really defeats the entire purpose. There are lots of different kinds of pills, so if you have bad side effects with one kind you can go and talk about it with your doctor and try a different one. You have to give it a while to work (ie you can't change pills every two weeks or anything crazy) but I'm sure there's one out there that will work for you.





Personally I had no issues with weight gain or mood swings, and it definitely reduced the length and heaviness of my periods, and I get way less cramps too.
Depends on what birth control we are talking about here. Not all birth control will have the side effects you are mentioning.


I currently have the Paragard IUD. No weight gain, no low sex drive, no mood swings. It is non hormonal and that is the reason why. I don't bleed a lot like a lot of women do with the copper iud but I do have a little more than normal cramping before my period.


Hormonal birth control can reek havoc on your body. Unfortunately, weight gain and low sex drive are the majority of complaints from women who take them. I personally will never go back to hormonal birth control ever again.


Like you said, everyone is different.
I'm on the pill and I have been since I was 17. It actually helped my PMS by making me less moody, I really saw no weight gain, and never experienced low sex drive as a side effect of the pill. I got on the pill because it helped my cramps, which I have little to none now and they were really bad before. I've been on Ortho Tri-Cylen Hi and Lo if that helps..and I'm on the Lo now because it was better for me. Talking to your doctor will help :)

I was on Yasmin... horrible made me sick stomache ache headache weak and no energy and weight gain

yaz ... I just started its not horrible my weight is kind of up there but im trying my best to get rid of it

the first month i was taking the pill it kind of made me sick...and really moody...not mean, but sad...and it didnt make me have a low sex drive really...i just rarely felt like having sex because i felt like **** all the time...but once i was through the first pack it wasnt as bad...and now that im on my 4th month...i dont have any side effects at all
i've been on too many to count.


a few will have side effects like weight gain and what not.


i'm on yaz now and i definitely haven't lost any part of my sex drive.


it's also helped with acne.


i didn't have it that bad, but my face has been clear since i started.


i would go for yaz.



My wife was on Ortho Novum. That was 30 years ago and I know there have been many changes in BC pills but she had no trouble. No weight gain. No loss of sex drive. Everything went perfect.
