Why does the pilot and co-pilot has to put there hands on the control that opens that bomb doors when they are

Both pilot and Co-pilot put there hands on the bomber doors when the are going to release why ?Why does the pilot and co-pilot has to put there hands on the control that opens that bomb doors when they are
As a way of ensuring it gets done. Though modern bombers won't release bombs with the bomb bay doors closed. Both the pilot and co-pilot advance throttles together for take-off too.Why does the pilot and co-pilot has to put there hands on the control that opens that bomb doors when they are
They don't.

The control that opens bomb bay doors is just a toggle switch.

There are duplicate controls at the Pilot and navigator station's in bombers. But only for some controls.

Either toggle switch will open the bomb bay doors.

Usually the bombardier/navigator, opens the bay doors and drops the bombs.

Actually, most of the time, it's done automaticly.

When the bomber reachs a preset course, location, altitude, angle of attack, the computer releases the bomb's automatically.
